An egg is a finished design; everything around it is where the failures live. DP Packaging was losing shelf share to breakage, and the brief forgave nothing — two drop heights onto concrete, a commodity shelf, and an unboxing that had to feel considered rather than merely opened.

Construct, then deconstruct

Three words were locked before any form: precise, convergent, enduring. Sixty-two ideas narrowed to three built concepts; ten strangers handled them while a research team watched. The decision matrix crowned one winner — the final housing took its geometry, then borrowed the other two concepts’ best moves wherever the data said users hesitated.

What changed

Both drops passed with the egg intact. Every revision traces to a finding — a hesitant pull became a marked handle, a missed seam became a wider signal band. The housing protects the egg; the discipline protects the design.
